Hans Shellum is flanked by son Tom and daughter Ruth. Josie Lee's brother, Oliver Lee, is behind Arnold's right arm, and Oliver's mother and father, John and Anna Lee, are to his right. Josie's other brother, Alvin Lee, is between Josie and Hans.

Immigrants Anders and Kari Shellum in the last years of their long and productive lives. He, born in 1829, was 39 when the family emigrated from Norway in 1869, and she was 38. She died in 1916, at age 85, and he died in 1918, at 88..
